And some more old skool house classics and italian piano
In 1989 across the pond the NY city boys were producing some awesome soulful underground house on labels like Nu Groove & Strictly Rhythm, and in Detroit the pioneers of techno were producing truely original tracks and some timeless pieces on the KMS and Transmat lables. In Chicago the birth place of house music, the sounds developed further with lables like Trax. But in Europe the Italians did what they did best, bootlegged and ripped of sounds from every decent tune across the globe and mashed them up together to create a concoction of underground dance meets Pete Waterman and developed their own sound of popular cheese that sounds so dated today. However amongst the piling mountains of cheddar, their were some gems that did slip through the net and became true classics in their own rights. Below are some tunes from across the four corners of the globe that helped shaped dance music to what it is today, and some tunes that maybe should stay in the past but for many will have some good memories attached to them.

Hi, I posted a comment in ‘about’ section but it doesn’t seem to have appeared yet? So may be this will work instead! Just to say that this is an awesome site. I found it by accident and immediately bookmarked! There is such a diverse range of music from back in the day, thankfully avoiding the turd you find on VA Rave compilations. I’m so happy to find mp3s of some the tracks I used to own on vinyl (never sell your vinyl…..I’m an ever regretful idiot). Is there a requests section? It would be great to help each other out with tunes when possible. I recently heard Grant Nelson’s – Spellbound and I’m desperate to hear the original, Bas Noir – My love is magic….piano heaven! Thanks so much for the great work you’re doing.

Hi Dave
Top tune is Bas Noir – My Love is magic……. Although I don’t have a requests section, I’ll see what I can do for you.
Cheers for the words of support

Hey
Some true classics there… some i’d forgot about – like “blow – the cutter” (What a track!)
One or two i’ll be glad to forget though too, none more than “Ezee Posse – Everything Starts With an E” …never could stand it to be honest!
One or two other tunes could/should have made it on this list…. such as:
CeCe Rogers – Someday , in my opinion one of the best and most important house tracks ever.
Marshall Jefferson – Move you Body. Another tune which has been sampled to high heaven over the “oldskool” period.
…i’m going to stop myself before I get carried away now
What the hell, while i’m here I might as well name a few tunes which I think have been the cornerstones of the oldskool genre.
Other than those already mentionedL:
A guy called gerald – emotion electric
A guy called gerald – voodoo ray
Sterling void – it’s Alright
Joe Smooth – promised land
frank de wulf – the tape
nicole – rock the house (club mix)
evolution – metropolis (cant stop the feeling = piano dub)
Asha – jj tribute
bassheads – is there anybody out there
beltram – energy flash
photon inc – generate power
ok, i’ll stop there
