Nu Groove Records 1988-1992

Nu Groove records was operation from 1988-1992, a New york based label that put out a string of classic underground dance tunes. The label was quite diverse and had open minded policy to the music it put out. This legendary label created a very underground sound that would cross genres of music by todays standards. It was definatly a label you would have to listen to first before you bought, if you were an early breakbeat techno fan, you could end up with a disco deep house tune in your bag. Many of the classics included Project 86 – Industrial Bass if you dig about this blog you should be able to find it, Code 6′ Second chapter saw the underground tech house tune C.O.D.E.S by Joey Beltram and of course the amazing Bobby Konders release that I featured here a while back. Here are a few more classic and not so classic but quality Nu Groove tunes to remeber this amazing label and show some respect for how it helped shaped the dance music scene.

Bobby Konders – The Poem

Bobby Konders – Nervous Acid

Code 6 – Quad 1

331/3 Queen – Searchin

Lost Entity – Annihilate

Power House III – Makin a livin

Project 86 – Legends

Utopia Project – File#5

Secret Code – Jazz Documents

  1. Wow! Amazing label, wish I’d bought more of their stuff at the time. I lost my copy of The Poem many moons ago so I may well get on the dl tomorrow.

Funny how you never really hear people going on about Nu Groove like they do Nervous or Strictly .. I guess that’s probably cos they didn’t have as many hits or maybe cos they were so diverse. Who knows? It’s a shame.

    Great post. Cheers!

  2. Yeah..Nervous was a very solid label and you kinda knew what you were getting with it, also the same almost applies to Strictly Rhythm, although they did a few breakbeat tunes like Rhythm Warfare – Two Notches. But in general Strictly was a US house sound.

That’s just reminded me of a Poll that was on Pirate Revival Station, Strictly Vs Nu Groove.

    The results speak for themselves

  3. Yeah, lucky it’s not an either/or situation, eh?

Don’t think I’ve ever heard that Two Notches tune ..

  4. Here it is

Not my first choice of mix from the release…Usually opt for the Battle Mix or Warfare Mix

  5. Nope, never heard that at all – though I do have a tune by Frankie Bones that samples it, think it’s on one of those Looney Tunes things.

Fuck me, I’m even boring myself ..

  6. Dunno about you but I am constantly surprised that anyone will shag me at all, never mind someone as beautiful, clever and funny as my lady .. them Roofies must wear off one day, surely?

Probably just as well. Records are a brilliant invention but they’re no good if you just need a hug.

    I shouldn’t comment drunk.

  8. Is there any way you could disable comments from me on Friday nights?

    • oh dear…drunk and in charge of a computer ;) Now I could of course delete your drunken ramblings, however a fine wordsmith like yourself may be deeply offended by the restriction of freedom of speech :)

  9. Wow…amazing blog,amazing post,keep it up
