Fighting to keep the spirit alive..

Well it has been sometime since the last update due to a number reasons. You may have noticed at the end of September The Acid House was shut down for over a week by the housing authorities for accommodating artists works within The Acid House that allegedly did not have permission to be hung on the walls there. This was a real shame and a blow to all the work and effort over the years that have gone into keeping a flame alight and re-uniting the rave soldiers of yesteryear with the sounds they marched too. The allegation was completely non specific and did not identify which musically produced art was “illegal”; it was just another scatter gun approach by the authorities to close another site that shares music whether is has copyright or not. Yes the music industry needs to protect itself, but why attack a site that is helping the scene by keeping it alive and therefore keeping an interest in “old Skool” music that will inevitably lead to the industry issuing releases of commercial dance anthems and yet another 100% Old Skool compilation that can be released. If information centres like The Acid House did not exist, then older music would fall into the distant memory of misspent youth. The music found shared here are mainly from white labels, or small defunct independent labels and is as far away from the profit making main stream commercial music as it can get. The industry is does not discriminate, they try and roll the bull dozer through The Acid House, but the foundations are good and The House stands for another day. However cracks in the walls are apparent, and the repairs are becoming more and more difficult to deal with. Let the music be the light that will lead the way and repair the soul.

Raving 89′ – DJ History.com

Raving89coverWeb

At last a decent coffee table book to replace the run of mill interior design book or modern art book that our better halfs leave on show to impress their mates. Hot on the heels of the impressive (so I have reliably been informed, as I do not have a copy yet) The Disco Files by Vince Aletti, the guys at the amazing djhistory.com are taking pre-orders for what looks to be one of the most exciting and memory evoking photographic books to take pride and place in your home.

It’s by Gavin Watson the photographer who made his name with his brilliant Skins and Skins & Punks books (the latter came out through Vice Publications earlier this year).

Raving ‘89 is a superb collection of his photographs. With 200 photos taken in the revolutionary year of 1989, this is the real deal. Hardly anyone took a camera to the raves, and the few people who did, got so bleary they left it under a speaker.

Gavin Watson not only remembered his Nikon, he’s also a truly world-class photographer. Gavin’s rave pictures capture the experience like no others. Grubby warehouses, hands through sheets of lasers, the haircuts, the smiles, the friends, the crimes against fashion. It’s a beautiful book, all wrapped up with hilarious recollections from Gavin and his brother Neville. DjHistory.com be taking pre-orders shortly, but you can have a sneak peek right now:

Portugal, 9 days before her 4th birthday. She was taken

Hands up who wants an extra bank holiday monday?

Posted in info on January 27, 2008 by theacidhouse

Please sign and pass on to as many as possible. Number 10 Downing Street has approved a petition that was launched requesting a new public holiday falling on the Monday after Remembrance Sunday in November each year. To be known as the National Remembrance Holiday, it’s got three aims:

1. To emphasise the remembrance of those servicemen and women who have given, and continue to give, their lives for Britain

2. To remind people of the importance of protecting our Nation and what it stands for;

3. To break that 3 month period between the August Public Holiday and Christmas when there are currently no long weekends, especially as the UK has fewer public holidays than most European Countries.

If you agree to the idea, please sign up to the petition – it doesn’t take long – and it would be great if you were to forward the link to other people as well. This is not just about another bank holiday, but more importantly about having a designated day to remember all those people that sacrificed their lives for our freedom.

THIS IS A NOTABLE PETITION THAT THE GOVERNMENT HAVE ASKED FOR
PLEASE SIGN IF YOU WANT AN EXTRA BANK HOLIDAY

Merry Xmas everyone from The Acid House

Posted in Music, info on December 22, 2007 by theacidhouse

The Acid House wishes all visitors and users a very happy Xmas and all the best for 2008.

In 2007 the addition of the blog to the site has made it easy for uploading tunes and mixes, good news is in 2008 I plan to re-design the site to make it even more user interactive with additional content due to be added (now remember there is 12 months in 2008, so by my usual track record for updates it could be in time for next Xmas).

The Acid House thanks for those who have contributed to the blog and provided mixes and tunes……if anyone would like reviews on tunes or mixes submitted in 2008, please get in touch.

So until January, stay safe, don’t eat too many magic beans that it spoils your Christmas Dinner, have a messy NYE and see you again in 2008.

Peace
