Trainspotter Quiz – Question 1
Above is a link to a video of The Human League’s track “Lebanon”,
What was the artist and title of the dance tune in the early part of 1991 that sampled the bassline at the start of the Lebanon?

Does anyone remember that Italian Dance compilation called The House Sound of Europe, I was listening through it again yesterday with fresh ears having not heard it any ages, and was suprised I never noticed it had this amazing italo disco tune on it by an artist called Jago. As soon as it came on the bassline hook was so familiar that I am sure it has been sampled on dozens of house tracks since its original release in 1983. After a small amount of research I came across a 1985 Frankie Knuckles release of this tune (which actually sounds the same as the version on the above said compilation). Have a listen to this, for many of the greying population it will bring back memories of the early 80’s, more for later ravers I am sure you will recoginise the so familiar sounds. So to all the spotters out there, what other tunes do you know that has sampled this superb tune.

Pirate Revival DJ Daddy has put together a superb balaeric mix influenced by the iconic footage of A Short Film About Chilling.
DJ Daddy is a Pirate Revival regular and tune monster, who always puts in a solid and reliable set on the station with nice variations (including some odd balls aswell…nobody mention Hadaway). Make sure you catch his shows on the Station on Tuesday evening between 8-10pm where he can be found entertaining trainspotters with tunes = points = prizes. Big respect this this DJ, hope you all enjoy this set.
In the DJ’s own words from his website http://www.do-1.co.uk/
“I have based this mix on the Short Film About Chilling documentary shot back in the early 1990’s.
This film followed the Farm and various other DJ’s travelling to Ibiza to create a party holiday for the clubbers in the know.
It has footage of the old style Ku club along with various other scenes from around the Island.
I remember watching this when it was first aired over christmas and fell in love with the vibe being created.
I did purchase a tape mix from hard to find Records which contained a mix of some of the tracks featured in the film, but it still fell short of what is a truely classic piece of clubbing history.
So I decided to lay down this mix as my homage to the film”.

Having just got my tickets for Underworld who are playing at The Brighton Centre on Friday, I thought i’d share this as the tune of day. A sublime tune that just gets everyones attention when it gets played, simple but effective.
The Black Dog was founded by Ken Downie along with Ed Handley and Andy Turner. In 1989, they were unable to find a label to back their releases and had to start their own, Black Dog Productions. They pressed up 1000 copies of their First E.P Vitrual and distributed these via underground record shops, then another 1000 get pressed for the uk, followed by a further 500 for export to Netherlands and Germany. Needless to day these records are quite rare and usually exchange hands for £100 (watch out for the re-presses). The second E.P was less successful, they only pressed 1000 copies of The Age of Slack but was not really played by many dj’s as it was not floor filler material as it was probably to quirky. But thankfully for me back in 1991some two years after its pressing, a local DJ to me gave me a mix tape with this tune on it, and I fell for the tune straight away with it’s break beat and melodic bass line. Although most people go with Virtual, for me Age of Slack was the one to have.
