It was only a couple of years ago when this record was the Holy Grail to some collectors particularly in the North West of England, exchanging hands for over £100, although now the internet second hand trading market has matured you can pick this up a lot cheaper now. In the leafy South in our little scene about 45 miles South West of London, this record was getting regular plays by our local DJ Jelly, Resident at Limelight / Rhythm Station and Sweat Sound systems. This is who I first heard play this tune back in 1991, and that is who I bought the track a couple of years later when he decided to sell up his decks (I got those too at a later date) and records. Penned on the white label is “Emotions E.P” and the track list. For years it was not widely known who produced this track, however it happens to be (according to several sources) Nick Hussey who also had involvement with Awesome 3, LuvDup and Bowa all quite succesful acts. While “Were on the move” seems to be the one of the most favoured tracks by many, I always prefered the flip side and the downtempo ambient version of “Promised Land”, which the singer behind Awesome 3 pop anthem “Don’t Go”, Julie McDermott delivers a beautiful vocal delight over this beatless synth led tune that boasts an excellent piano breakdown.

Long established Soho record shop, Harold Moores, is closing for a re-fit. In order to prepare the shop for its revamp, staff are chucking out thousands and thousands of records – which were dumped, rather unceremoniously, in a skip outside the premises. But that’s not to say the records are destined for landfill just yet…

An amazing day from start to finish, a sterling breakfast courtesy of Mr & Mrs Go Bang (thank you both xx) setting us up for another fun filled day at Calabash, Brighton Pride 2010.

Joubert Singers – Stand on the world (Larry Levan version)

As mentioned before on previous post I was a sucker for the early UK progressive house tunes that were coming out in late 91 and early 92 on labels such as Cowboy, Guerilla, Limbo, Junk Rock etc. I have fond memories of attending the DIY party tucked away in the  Sussex downs at Plumbton, East Sussex, where the sound system was pumping out US house and Prog house tunes, the tune I remember the most was Transformer 2 – Pacific Symphony with the emotive euphoric and peaceful intro and the lovely piano breakdown. I had a two mix tapes from 1992 back then from a Mark Wilkinson a worker at Flying Records, sadly I lost one of them and I am still pining to hear that tape again, it had some amazing records, plenty of lesser known tunes. On the tape I did manage to salvage, was how I found out about this gem of a track, nestled in the mix is the white label version of The Diceman – Quad, that blends acid synths and piano with some unusual vocal in places, a sublime tune and not one you would hear out that much, although I am convinced it was played at the DIY party, or at least the Spooky version that was on the flip side Tempest release. A poor quality soundclip of the track is on youtube, ripped from Dimitri From Paris, static mix, and you can get a crisp 320kps version of one of my secret weapons here.

The Diceman – Quad (White label version)

Here is a nice vocal house tune from the excellent but obsolete Big Shot label, Amy Jackson on vocals and produced by Komix (Andrew Komis) who was behind a string of house tunes including the anthem Come get my loving by Dionne also on the Big Shot label. Amy Jacksons vocals are lazy and seductive, while the tune has all the elements of a perfect house tune, excellent drum groove, piano and limited use of synth stabs, remaining quite laid back and giving the track enough space to breathe. The youtube clip is the Club version, so I have uploaded the EZ Mix, which in my opinion is the better version. Other recommended tunes too look out for on this label are Landlord – I like it, Mr & Mrs Dale – It’s You, In-Dex – Give me a Sign & Jill Mendez – Get up & you don’t know what you are missing.

Firstly I would like to say a massive thank you to all the readers who visit the blog

The Acid House website has been running for over 11 years now, started back in 1999 when I bought my first multimedia computer with a 56k Modem and had a 1p per minute internet account. I was curious to know how websites worked, so after registering the domain name and using the 10mb of free webspace with my internet account I set about using Frontpage and created theacidhouse, with an archive of scanned flyers from my own collection, and audio rips from my records and uploaded using that rubbish old format Real Audio, remember them?

I guess the web technology moved on quicker than I could keep up with web design, so in 2007 I switched The Acid House to blog status for ease of use and using file sharing apps I have been able to provide some excellent high quality mp3.

I am proud that I have been providing old skool beats for over 11 years and reuniting many people with music that was not that was not easily accessible back in the day , and introducing a new generation of listeners to a music that was part of a major movement in British youth culture and worldwide for that matter. All music on The Acid House has been free and will remain free.

However, I would like to make the blog a better user experience by doing the following

Upgrading the mediafire account to allow direct linking to tunes uploaded to the account (Removes adverts and pop ups)

Upgrade wordpress account to disable advertising on the blog or move blog to a wordpress host to enable more html functions and streaming widgets.

This is where you readers come in, I have never asked for donations before but if you can spare some small change even if it is £1 so I can hit a target of about £20 per month, then I can enable these upgrades and offer you a better user experience.

All donations will be truly appreciated no matter how big or small

It was a compilation I made in April last year for the now dormant blog Wigid Soundwaves, but seeing as not much has been happening there recently I thought I would put this on here for you to have a listen too. Here is another live recording from my old Monday Night shows on Pirate Revival, once you get past the mumbling mic skills (don’t worry, I kept talk to a minimum as I am a microphobic) you a treated to some early chicago house tunes to kick off then followed by an onslaught European Techno and some UK Breakbeat (Renegade Soundwave, Leftfield) then ending where we started on the Chicago tip.
