Djum Djum – Difference

Posted in House, Music with tags , , , on March 5, 2009 by theacidhouse

Another great release from The Outer Rhythm Label in 1990, produced by Neil Cole and recorded and mixed by Leftfield. I really love the tribal sounds and the percussion in this tune, nice and laid back old skool groove.

Outer Rhythm put out some amazing tunes in their early days, like Gwen McCrae – All this Love that I’m giving, House II House – It’s Time to Feel The Rhythm, Leftfields Not Forgotten & Ability II Pressure not forgetting the huge anthem by Moby called “Go”.

Keep The Secrets: Nightlife EP

With spring on our doorsteps and summer around the corner, the music that brings us sunshine or sunshine that brings us music is well and truly upon us.

The first release from Universal Vibes for 2009 brings some much needed balearic sunshine grooves to the turntable platter to warm our souls. Paddy Freeform’s Soulsonix edit of “Nightlife” adds over an additional four minutes of goodness to this stand out track. The Nightlife EP has been released ahead of the labels first compilation album and is available to buy from today. More info on the label and releases can be found here http://www.universalvibes.com/

a2) Make it right

b1) Make it right (Paddy Freeform’s Soulsonix edit)

b2) Nightlife (Paddy Freeform’s Soulsonix edit)

RELEASE DATE: VINYL-16/2/09

DIGITAL-2/3/09

The first release for 2009 on universal vibes welcomes to new artists to the label, going under the name keep the secrets…

After a long history of musical trial and error, John Renfrow and Deric Jones decided that it was time to take a different direction in their musical vision. It started two years ago with a simple beat and a slow jazz guitar, and soon developed into an eclectic fusion of musical expression. Each note ebbs and flows with hints of many different styles and genres. Both members of Keep the Secrets have found level ground in creating a sound that ambitiously exceeds the musical standards of today, and have vowed to honor their dreams by releasing songs that they love.

When we heard these two tracks, we had to sign them up, with a definite Balearic vibe running right through they compliment our output perfectly while adding a new stylistic angle. Label head Paddy Freeform also got his hand on the tracks and completed two edits which stretch the tracks out into dancefloor heaven

Wang Chung – Dance Hall Days (Re-edit)

Posted in Balearic, Music with tags , , on February 28, 2009 by theacidhouse

Having recently heard the 1989 Revisted mixes of Wang Chung’s synth pop classic Dance Hall Days, popular with some of those on the balearic scene. I felt it needed a quick re-edit to remove the female rapping and also extend the breakdown. This is my first re-edit, so go easy on me.

Lyrics

Take your baby by the hand
And make her do a high hand stand
Take your baby by the heel
And do the next thing that you feel

Chorus:
We were so in phase
In our dance hall days
We were cool on craze
When i, you, and everyone we knew
Could believe, do, and share in what was true
Oh, I said

Take your baby by the hair
And pull her close and there there there
Take your baby by the ears
And play upon her darkest fears

Repeat chorus

So take your baby by the wrist
And in her mouth an amethyst
And in her eyes two sapphires blue
And you need her and she needs you
And you need her and she needs you

Repeat chorus

Razorboy & Mirrorman – Beyond Control / Cutter Mix

Posted in Music, Rave with tags , on February 26, 2009 by theacidhouse

mirrorman

This was the first white label I aquired in 1991, I say aquired as my brother actually bought it in Basement Records in Reading. but within a few months it had snuck into my record box for safe keeping. I remember recording this on Colin Favers Kiss FM radio show, not suprisingly really as the Rabbit City label this was released on was set up by the legendary Colin Faver and Gordon Matthewman. Both tracks on this release are effectivley a mega mix of some of the finer underground techno dance tunes that were doing the rounds between 89-91. Beyond Control was the harder edge tune and was one for the hardcore raves, as the Cutter mix was a softer groove and popular with the house heads. You will also find this Cutter Mix on a general release under 10 Records called Blow – Cutter.

Nu Groove Records 1988-1992

Posted in Acid, House, Music, Rave, Techno with tags , , , , , , , , on February 26, 2009 by theacidhouse

Nu Groove records was operation from 1988-1992, a New york based label that put out a string of classic underground dance tunes. The label was quite diverse and had open minded policy to the music it put out. This legendary label created a very underground sound that would cross genres of music by todays standards. It was definatly a label you would have to listen to first before you bought, if you were an early breakbeat techno fan, you could end up with a disco deep house tune in your bag. Many of the classics included Project 86 – Industrial Bass if you dig about this blog you should be able to find it, Code 6′ Second chapter saw the underground tech house tune C.O.D.E.S by Joey Beltram and of course the amazing Bobby Konders release that I featured here a while back. Here are a few more classic and not so classic but quality Nu Groove tunes to remeber this amazing label and show some respect for how it helped shaped the dance music scene.

Bobby Konders – The Poem

Bobby Konders – Nervous Acid

Code 6 – Quad 1

331/3 Queen – Searchin

Lost Entity – Annihilate

Power House III – Makin a livin

Project 86 – Legends

Utopia Project – File#5

Secret Code – Jazz Documents

February 2009 SuNTouch Production By Dj Nova

“Italo disco music inspired me since i was a teenager, but i wasn’t the only one, even first Chicago house producers

inspired from this big era of music… in this mix i putted in the blender some more italo disco afro tunes and mixed

with more underground disco, African & nu balearic tracks. Some of them were big in Ibiza, some of them would being

big in Ibiza if i was balearic dj… At the end the point here is to continue what i started last summer… what? No words

just music & original sounds from the white island that 22 years now is flirting with my ears… hope you will enjoy

Artists Celebrate Acid House

Posted in Music, art with tags , , on February 14, 2009 by theacidhouse

A new exhibition has opened at Selfridges store in London, looking at the phenomenon of Acid House and the rave movement.

Here the club/urban artist Pez explains what the show, ArtCore, is all about.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/7885357.stm

Sometime ago I had intended to post artwork from raves flyers and record sleeves as for me this was also an important part of the culture. One of my favourite artist was Junior Tomlin, who illustrated a number of flyers and record sleeves, most memorable being the Kickin Vinyl vs Vinyl Solution release and Zero Zero – Zeroxed.
